Drummers Survival Kit- Reviewed

Time forĀ another review/ product plug.

Zildjian corp puts out a nifty drummers survival kit that has everything a gigging drummer would need in a pinch to fix an issue with his kit.

Survival Kit

The kit includes:
10 cymbal stand sleeves

10 Tension rod washers

2 small cymbal felts (hi-hat cymbal)

6 medium cymbal felts (crash or small ride)

2 large cymbal felts (ride cymbal)

1 Snare Patch

Set of snare holder strings

I picked up a bunch of them for my students as Christmas gifts. Although they are not the most exciting gift sitting in their bag, when they become necessary, they become very exciting.
The kit is CHEEP. I paid 7 bucks or so. That’s a bargain.

So why this kit?

I ALWAYS lose cymbal felts.
I USED TO ALWAYS lose cymbal sleeves(now my stands have the sleeve and bottom washer as a screw on integrated unit, so I don’t lose them. If you don’t have that, you will lose them.)
I ALWAYS lose at least one washer on every full kit head change.
I Have Never broken a drum head mid gig in the 33 years I have been playing, which means the odds get worse for me each time I play.
I have had a snare holder break on me at a gig.(Had to use duct tape to keep the snares on the drum)

The best part, when on a gig, you can make like you are chewing something tasty, when the guitarist asks you what you are eating, tell him “Licorice tubes” and hand him a cymbal sleeve. He will eat it, and if the timing is just before a song begins, he might even keep it in for a while. Remember, this only works with guitarists. This friendship building gesture is worth the 17 cents it cost you.

The bottom line, the kit is well thought out and attractively priced. Any drummer would be happy to get one of these kits.
